CMS students and teachers highlighted in national news

National NBC crews have been all over Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools the past two weeks, filming segments for 'Education Nation', a week-long look at public education in America.

Tryon Hills Pre-K Center was the setting for NBC's look into the importance of early education. The crew observed two classes, then spoke with teachers and students about how having a Pre-K foundation can support a child's education.

This past week, an NBC crew got a first-hand look into the life of fourth-grade Sterling Elementary student Jevón Dixon. While at Sterling, NBC interviewed some of the outstanding teachers who are making a difference in the lives of students. Sterling has been noted as an excellent example of a Turnaround School and recently hosted a round table discussion with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

NBC's day at Sterling will be featured Sunday, Sept. 26 on the Today Show from 8-9 a.m., during NBC's Town Hall meeting on MSNBC cable channel 50 at noon, and on NBC Nightly News at 6:30 p.m. Tryon Hills' students and teachers make their debut later in the week. At the time of this email, NBC was unable to confirm specific dates and times.

Kanye’s Amsterdam Revival

Emerging from the depths of 2004, here’s a video of Kanye’s full set at an Amsterdam show. This is pure ‘Ye the musician, with neither the elaborate props and lighting nor outlandish antics that often make themselves hindrances. Throughout, he’s accompanied by John Legend on the keys and Dame playing the supporting role, along with brief guest spots from GLC and Miri Ben-Ari. Clocking in at seventy minutes long and worth the time spent watching it because the performance exposes the raw, more intimate performance side of Mr. West and his music, the parts that are often forgotten or overlooked.
